BUNCRANA native Mark Timlin continued his excellent form of late with two more goals as Derry City overcame Galway FC 4-0 at Eamonn Deacy Park this evening.
Timlin (pictured above) has now scored twice in each of his last three games, having scored a brace in last Friday’s 3-0 win over Longford Town at the Brandywell Stadium. Seven nights’ beforehand the former Buncrana Hearts frontman was on the mark on two occasions as Peter Hutton’s side lost 4-2 at Bohemians.
In Galway, Timlin’s lay-off on 51 minutes enabled Ciaran O’Connor to fire the visitors into a 1-0 lead before taking on the scoring responsibilities himself. On 60 minutes, Timlin scored a penalty after a foul on Dean Jarvis.
Then, three minutes later, Timlin was on hand to score again – his 10th goal of the season – when he shot under Galway goalkeeper Ger Hanley following a pass from O’Connor. Two minutes from time, Stephen Dooley completed the rout.
Ramelton native Barry McNamee was part of Hutton’s starting XI, while Seamus Sharkey from Newtowncunningham, goalkeeper Shaun Patton of Letterkenny and St Johnston’s Ronan Curtis were unused substitutes.
The victory moves Derry City ahead of Drogheda United and into fourth from bottom of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, some six points ahead of second last Sligo Rovers and 13 in front of Limerick FC.
