English – who had been rumoured as not entering these Championships – eased to gold in 1:49.09.

A three-time European medallist, English saw off Zak Curran of Dundrum South Dublin (1:50.19) and Ratoath’s Conor Duncan (1:50.73) to take gold in today’s final.
