GWEEDORE CELTIC’S MARC WALSH has been named by manager Colin O’Brien on the Republic of Ireland Under-15 panel for a friendly double header against Poland.
The sides will meet at Rock Celtic FC on Tuesday, November 24 (7.00pm) and Thursday, November 26 (12.00pm).
“These are first two officials fixtures after the players were identified following the Kennedy Cup then we have conducted a three day training camp and held further assessments,” said O’Brien.
“These games will give some indication where the players are at in relation to what is required at international level and it’ll be the highest standard they’ll have played so far in their careers.
“We played Poland last year and they produce good technical sides so it’ll be a good opportunity for them to see what this level is about.
“You can see that these players already have some ideas on how to build from the back and the work do they have done at the centres of excellence will stand to them.
“It’s our job to develop them a little bit more in regards to how we want them to play in attacking and defending so it will be very hard to judge where they’re at until they have the first couple of games under their belts. We’re looking forward to working with them.”
Walsh played for the side in the Hibernia Cup in the summer.
