TODAY IS EILEEN LANGAN’S birthday.
And this afternoon, the Ballure, Fanad native, who is based in Manchester went along to Old Trafford with her 12-year-old son Padraig as guests for a Manchester United Christmas party.
Eileen is a United fan and of course, follows the fortunes of the Donegal Gaelic football team. Today, she took a Donegal jersey with her to get signed – the All-Ireland winning 1992 replica. And it’s no ordinary jersey.

“The jersey belongs to my late sister Roisin,” Eileen told Donegal Sport Hub from Manchester this evening. “She was killed in December 2010 in a road traffic accident along with her baby Catherine in Co Monaghan. I will be home for the anniversary on December 28.
“Roisin (who was 39) supported Manchester United and always wore her Donegal shirt with pride, so I have it now and it’s something that is very special to me. So I decided to bring it along today.”

Manchester United’s Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney (pictured below) were among those at the Christmas gathering.
“Mata is my favourite player and I was delighted when he was there to sign Roisin’s jersey,”Eileen added. “He’s very nice and it was great to see Wayne Rooney there to sign as well. They made it a very special birthday for me and I’m sure Roisin will be looking down delighted as well.”
