Lettermacaward’s Carl McHugh has been named as the Motherwell captain for the 2017/18 season.
McHugh, signed from Plymouth Argyle last summer, missed the first half of last season after suffering a horrific head injury on his Scottish Premier League debut against Kilmarnock in August.
However, he battled back to make 22 appearances and scored two goals for the Fir Park side. McHugh scored in the 3-1 win over Kilmarnock that confirmed Motherwell’s SPL survival.
Former Reading and Bradford City player McHugh has already become a fans’ favourite at ‘Well.
Now, following the retirement of veteran midfielder Keith Lasley, McHugh will skipper the Steelmen next season.
“Carl epitomises everything that I want at this football club; passion, desire, super to have around the place and totally committed to Motherwell,” the Motherwell manager, Stephen Robinson, said.
“I think it will be a popular decision among the players, hopefully a popular decision among the staff.
“For me it was a no-brainer because of his performances and desire for this football club.”
