Malin overcame an understrength Kilcar side on Saturday evening to keep their hopes alive of staying in the All-County Football League Division 1.
Malin 4-14 Kilcar 0-10
Brendan McLaughlin and Matthew Byrne put Malin two up inside a minute before Stephen McBrearty hit back with a free. Declan Walsh replied before Dan McDaid reacted quickly, when Brendan McLaughlin’s goal shot came off the post, to slot home for a Malin goal.
Malin extended their lead with Anthony Kelly and two Matthew Byrne efforts all from play. Aidan McGinley registered Kilcar’s second point with a free.
Matthew Byrne hit back for the hosts and then Anthony Kelly capitalised on the poor kick out advancing in and finished into the top corner for Malin’s second goal.
Malin then scored three excellent points, the first from Seamus Doherty out on the left touchline, Declan Walsh pointed after a great team score and Paul McLaughlin ran down the right before swinging over a curling effort from out wide.
Stephen McBrearty scored the last three points of the half with his first effort on goal just over the bar and two frees to leave the half time score Malin 2-10 Kilcar 0-05.
McBrearty opened the second half scoring but Malin put the game out of reach right away with Brendan McLaughlin scoring under the keeper after good approach play from Stephen McLaughlin and Dan McDaid.
Two more McBrearty points and Conor Doherty’s efforts were cancelled out by Brendan McLaughlin, McDaid and Christopher McLaughlin. Brendan McLaughlin and Dan McDaid added two more points before substitute Conor Byrne scrambled home a goal after Brendan McLaughlin had hit the post again, the third time he done so in the match. Kevin Campbell scored a late consolation for the Towney men.
