THERE was no joy for the Magee siblings from Raphoe in the Total BWF World Championships in Jakarta this week.
On day one in Indonesia, Chloe Magee bowed out of the women’s singles when she was beaten by Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeld.
Magee put up a good fight in the opening set, but it was the Dane – two places above Magee (35 and 37 respectively) in the world rankings – who took the win in straight sets, 21-17 21-10.
In the mixed doubles, Chloe and Sam Magee, her brother, has a fine opening round win over Chinese Taipei’s Wang/Cheng.
The Raphoe duo won 21-18, 21-17 to set up a second round meeting with the world number 8 pair, Hyun Ko and Ha Na Kim from Korea.
It wasn’t to be for theb Magees, though.
After fighting hard in the first game, they just couldn’t keep up with the Koreans and lost 21-15. The Koreans turned on the pace in the second game and ran away with the game 21-9 in just 27 minutes.
