It’s that time of year again! The Madge Carr Mulroy Bay Swim will be celebrating its 10th year with a special event on Saturday 10th August.
A remarkable local woman will be remembered again when crowds challenge themselves to the charity swim across Mulroy Bay.
In 2010 the Mulroy Bay open water swimming race was one of the first of its kind in the area, changing the face of open water swimming by making it accessible to both amateur and elite competitors.
Over 100 swimmers from all over the Province and further afield took part in the inaugural event with many returning year after year.
In 2011 the Mulroy Bay swim became the Madge Carr Swim, in memory of the local Cranford woman who was said to be the first to swim the bay from Cranford to Kerrykeel in the 1920s.
To date the event has raised in excess of €40,000 for charity, with the RNLI being the main beneficiary.
This year all money raised will go to both the RNLI and the Oncology Ward in Letterkenny University Hospital.
This is your chance to set yourself a new challenge to swim the Mulroy Bay, or to beat a previous time!
There is a 400 fun swim for kids & newbies, an 850 metre open water swim and the Mulroy Mile (1 mile). Registration is open now at : https://mulroyswim.wufoo.com
The swim will take place on Saturday 10th August 2019 at 3pm. It will be followed by a BBQ and music in Logues of Cranford at 7pm.
Whilst there is a registration fee of €25 per person, there are also sponsorship forms and organisers would urge swimmers to raise as much money as possible for the two deserved charities. To register or request a sponsor form, either visit the Mulroy Bay Swim Facebook page or call 0861902506
