Bernard McGeehan couldn’t hide his elation as Sean MacCumhaills reached their first semi-final in 14 years earning a 2-10 to 0-10 victory against St. Michael’s at O’Donnell Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Twin Towns club, who have been so impressive in the championship over the last few weeks, produced another impressive display to defy 11/4 odds and beat the match favourites St. Michael’s.
Oisin Gallen put had a superb performance for MacCumhaills, kicking six points and exerted himself as the engine for McGeehan’s side.
McGeehan said: “It is a great day for the club, it is 14 years for the club since they played Division One and it’s 14 years since we were in a county semi-final and we are back in another one and we are absolutely chuffed,” he said.
“It is not easy getting to that stage and I am just delighted for the lads there because anybody that witnessed that game today you could see the heart and hunger was there.”
