Odhrán Mac Niallais might have hoped the Donegal senior hurling final had remained in its original date as the Gaoth Dobhair man gets set to line out for Donegal New York in the county final tomorrow in the Big Apple.
Mac Niallais is one of a handful of well-known names who can expect to be lining out for Donegal New York against Monaghan at Gaelic Park tomorrow afternoon.
Mac Niallais’s Gaoth Dobhair are set to face St Eunan’s in the eagerly-awaited Donegal SFC quarter-final tomorrow in Ballybofey.
But Mac Niallais, who took a break from the Donegal senior panel for 2017, will have to make do with attempting to watch on eir Sport, who are showing tomorrow’s quarter-finals.
Last week, there was the possibility of the Eunan’s-Gaoth Dobhair game being moved back until next weekend – when Mac Niallais could have played for his home club.
But with tv commitments, the hurling final – also involving St Eunan’s – was moved to next weekend.
Leo McLoone of Naomh Conaill is in a similar position. McLoone, another who broke away from the Donegal panel, will hope to see Naomh Conaill navigate past Killybegs this evening.
McLoone and Mac Niallais are joined on the Donegal New York squad by 2012 All-Ireland winning panelists Peter Witherow and Antoin McFadden (both St Michael’s).
Another St Michael’s man, Stephen Doak, Peter McNelis from Ardara, former Donegal senior Ross Wherity (St Eunan’s) and Killybegs’ Shane Murrin are also hoping to be in on the action.
Donegal New York are managed by Ardara native Pat McGill and St Michael’s man James McFaddden.
