FINN VALLEY’S Sommer Lecky has qualified for the high jump at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tblisi.
The 15-year-old Castlederg native (picture above courtesy of Kieran Carlin) came through this morning’s heats, clearing 1.72m at the first attempt. Sweden’s Maja Maja Helena Nilsson from Sweden and Juliette Perez of France did likewise and Lecky advances to the final as she was in the top 12 qualifiers. The final will take place on Thursday.
Last weekend, Lecky was a gold medal winner in the high jump with a leap of 1.74 metres at the Schools Track and Field International in Scotland.
The Strabane Academy schoolgirl is coached by Niall Wilkinson and is one of four Donegal athletes in action in Georgia.
This evening, two other Finn Valley athletes take the stage.
Aaron McGlynn is in Heat 2 at the Boys 800m at 3:45pm (Irish time) while Arlene Crossan goes in the long jump beforehand at 2:50pm.
Meanwhile, Brendan O’Donnell from Lifford AC is in the hammer final on Friday afternoon.
