Loreto Secondary School, Letterkenny and Letterkenny Golf Club continue to promote new sporting opportunities for its Transition Year Students by hosting its second ‘Come & Try Golf’ in the school.
Rory Leonard, Development Officer from the Confederation of Golf in Ireland (CGI) delivered the programme of activities which introduced the girls to the basic skills of golf, such as putting, chipping, pitching and driving skills with assistance from Deirdre O’Toole, Donegal Sports Partnership (DSP) and Ulster ILGU Junior Development Committee with Ms Jackie Ireland, Lady Captain and Ms Mary Fowley, Lady Vice-Captain, Letterkenny Golf Club, lending a helping hand.
[adrotate group=”88″]This is the second year of this unique partnership between the Loreto Secondary School, Letterkenny and Letterkenny Golf Club, Ladies Branch which was spearheaded by teacher and golfer, Brid Mulhern and Principal, Nora Friel and supported through Donegal Sports Partnerships (DSP) Women in Sport Programme and the ILGU and CGI with great credit going to Letterkenny Golf Club Lady Captain, Jackie Ireland and Mary Fowley, Lady Vice-Captain and their members for playing key roles in supporting the delivery of this programme to the girls in the school and in turn promoting golfing opportunities within their club.
A follow-on programme of activities is being arranged for the transition year students interested in taking part in the coaching sessions with Letterkenny Golf Club, Ladies Branch and their PGA Professional, Seamus McMonagle with ongoing support from Donegal Sports Partnership, ILGU and CGI.
