Eoghan Ban Gallagher has already tasted three Championship defeats on the bounce to Tyrone – and says Donegal have to ‘bring it’ at Breffni Park on Saturday evening.
Donegal and Tyrone clash for the eighth Championship meeting in nine years in Cavan with a place in the Ulster final at stake.
Gallagher and Donegal have come out on the wrong side of games in the 2016 Ulster final, a semi-final in 2017 and last year in the Super 8s.
“The defeat last year, we were well in the game,” Gallagher told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“Tyrone beat us well and they deserved it because we didn’t perform for the 70 minutes.
“This time, we need to perform for the whole 70 minutes. That’s the only way we’ll beat Tyrone. They’ll bring it for the whole 70 minutes and we need to do the exact same.”
Donegal had Patrick McBrearty back in tow for the recent quarter-final win over Fermanagh and won Division 2 in an experimental spring.
As Ulster champions, Donegal have a bit between their teeth this week.
Gallagher said: “We don’t want to lose our crown. We want to go to the final with a chance to defend the title.
“We’ll go in believing that we can win the game. Tyrone will believe the same thing. Previous results don’t mean anything. In the back of our minds, we’ll believe we can win and it’s the same for Tyrone. It’s just who delivers the better performance on the day.”
