OLLIE Horgan insists that ‘pure and utter stubbornness and resilience’ got Finn Harps over the line against Sligo Rovers.
While it took Harps until the 16th game of the season to win in 2019, they’ve managed to do it at the first attempt this time around.
“We’ve played a hell of a lot better before and got nothing,” Horgan told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport.
“We didn’t play well enough in the second half in particular, but we’d gladly take that. The game was very honest. There are a lot of knocks and bruises in there. There was nothing spared by anyone out there.
“They rolled back the clock out of pure and utter stubbornness and resilience as opposed to any huge brilliance.”
New signing O’Sullivan bagged the only goal of the game to get Harps off to a winning start.
Ronan Murray had a big chance to earn a draw for Sligo right at the death, but Harps ‘keeper Mark Anthony McGinley thwarted his endeavours.
Horgan said: “We ran our luck in the second half, there is no point in pretending. Sligo were the better side and showed their fitness and football ability.
“We have to get better or we won’t be staying in the Division. We need to move on and we need to get better.”
