Shannon McGroddy knew the All-Ireland winning feeling from before – but nothing will top captaining her home club to glory.
McGroddy captained Downings to victory in yesterday’s All-Ireland junior final at Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta, hosted by the Downings club.
McGroddy scored two points as they saw off Cill Chomáin after extra time 1-17 to 2-12 in an exhilarating match.
“It’s unbelievable,” McGroddy said.
“We’re only going a year and a half. To win an All-Ireland here in Na Dúnaibh – tá sé dochreidte.
“It has always been my dream to have a ladies team in the club and that finally came true – this is the icing on the cake.”
McGroddy played for Termon in the 2014 All-Ireland club final win over Mournebbey, but has since returned home.
She said: “We have been preparing for this for a long time. Finally, we had enough numbers to field a senior team.”
