An animated Tony McNamee felt that his Swilly Rovers side deserved something from last night’s League Cup against Bonagee United – and says the ‘amateur’ clubs in the USL are that in name only.
McNamee railed against the lack of an offside flag for Bonagee’s second goal, in the opening minutes of the second half.
“The second was a terrible goal to concede. It was at least three yards and everyone in the stand agreed,” he said.
“There was only one team in it at 4-3. We gave away a stupid penalty. We were beat 5-3 at the end up, I can’t say much more.
“We were well on top and forced three or four corners in a row. Without really having clear cut chances, we had them fairly under pressure.”
McNamee has returned several local players back to Swilly Park again, but has been frustrated in some attempts.
He added: “I had a fella promised me to sign, but he signed for another Ulster Senior League club last week. It’s an amateur game, but everyone knows what’s happening.”
