SHANE BYRNE was proud of his Glengad United side in their FAI Senior Cup defeat to Premier Division Waterford FC at Maginn Park.
“The game plan went really well until they scored the first goal,” Byrne told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“I’m delighted with the performance, I thought we did really well.
“At 0-0, we always had a chance to nick one and even at 1-0, there was a chance we might have got the equaliser.”
Glengad, semi-finalists in last season’s FAI Junior Cup, were appearing at this phase for the first time after previously overcoming Home Farm and St Michael’s.
Byrne said: “It’s a great pre-season for us. If we put in a shift like that against teams in our own League it should set us up well.
“Our game plan was to stay in the game for as long as we could. We dealt with everything that they threw at us. We defended very well and our shape was very good. We nullified what they were dong because our shape and discipline were very good.”
