Shane Byrne and Glengad United are 90 minutes from glory again – and these are the weeks they enjoy most.
The old habits haven’t died at The Crua as Glengad – Jackie Crossan Premier Division champions in each of the last three seasons – overcame Greencastle 3-1 today to set up a final day tussle at fellow title-chasers Aileach next Sunday. To the victor, it will be the spoils, but Glengad know a point will suffice for them.
“I’d have taken it at the start of the season, but we still have to go there and get a result,” Byrne said.
Glenagd and Aileach also meet in the Buncrana Credit Union and Charlie O’Donnell Cup finals meaning the sides effectively have three Cup finals in the next three weeks.
Terence Doherty’s two goals, either side of Stephen McLaughlin’s strike, gave Aileach three points against Greencastle and Byrne will welcome Michael Byrne, Paddy McDermott and Christy McLaughlin back next week.
Byrne added: “We just take it one game at a time and this against Greencastle was the biggest game of the season.
“The players know how to get over the line and know how to win. It was difficult to play, but we created a lot of chances and we kept the ball when we needed to keep it.”
