JOHN CUNNINGHAM sighed in relief as Killybegs made home advantage count to seal a place in the Donegal SFC quarter-finals.
After letting Dungloe back into the game and go all square, 0-7 to 0-7, at half-time, Killybegs came good again in the second half. Following an opening day loss to Naomh Conaill, the Fishermen recorded home wins over Sean MacCumhaills and Dungloe to advance.
“It’s excellent,” Cunningham told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“We were concentrating on the two home games.
“Championship at home there is always a bit of pressure. The players we have aren’t battle hardened so there is a bit of relief involved in fairness.”
With word coming through that MacCumhaills were on the Naomh Conaill coat tails, Killybegs knew they had to win, just in case.
Cunningham said: “It was do or die for us. It was win or nothing and we could have found ourselves in a relegation battle all of a sudden.
“We were disappointed to let them back in before half-time. We started the second half in a bit of style and got a bit of daylight.”
