Raffaele Cretaro admits he felt a ‘weird’ sensation facing Sligo Rovers on Friday night – but the veteran attacker already feels as if he’s been at Finn Park longer than a few weeks.
Cretaro signed for Harps after ending his association with Sligo, for whom he played over 500 games.
Cretaro had a couple of spells at the Showgrounds, spanning 17 years, and it was certainly a strange experience to come up against his old club so soon on Friday night.
“Even though it was weird playing against Sligo, it’s still felt as if I’ve been here for five or six seasons with the way I’ve been made feel since I came into the club.
“Hopefully we can do something this season, the main thing being to stay in the Premier Division.”
Romeo Parkes and Kris Twardek netted to give Sligo the advantage and Daniel O’Reilly’s header was unable to inspire a comeback from Harps.
Cretaro said: “We’re confident as a group.
“We know what we want to do. We were a little bit off against Sligo, but we had three games in a week, which is tough for any team.
“It wasn’t to be for us, but it’s good that we have a quick turnaround to get ready for Shamrock Rovers on Monday. That gives us a chance to put it right and we can try to rectify it.”
