Coláiste na Carraige manager Noel Ward says yesterday’s Donegal Senior Schools final win over Carndonagh Community School makes up some way for their Ulster ‘fiasco’.
A stirring display by Aaron Doherty saw Coláiste na Carraige defeat Carn 3-14 to 2-7 in Convoy yesterday.
That win came just over two months after Coláiste na Carraige bowed out of the Danske Bank Markey Cup after a quarter-final loss to St Patrick’s from Keady.
At Bawnacre in Irvinestown, the game was played over two 22-minute periods after a referee failed to appear for the appointed start time and the booking of the venue by two other teams meant it had to be cut short.
“The way we bowed out of it left a bad taste in the mouth,” Ward said.
“in hindsight we should have gone home. We had organised the game for during the day on the Friday. If they had gone for the Friday, we would have seen a truer reflection.
“The games should have been played earlier. We agreed to it, but we probably should have taken the wagon home.”
Ward said his men had ‘plenty to prove’ in yesterday’s final against Carn – who ended up winning the Markey Cup.
He said: “We had a great opening. The good strong start helped us. They never got the chance to get into it and we kept the hammer on.”
