Aidan McAteer made no excuses after Monday’s Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta defeat to Downings – and said he was still ‘in a happy place’ despite the loss.
A late Allen Pasoma goal saw Downings claim a memorable home win in the final, a month after Gaeil Fhánada took the spoils in the Donegal final.
“Downings deserved it,” McAteer said.
“We were just out on our feet at the end there.
“We came around good after half-time. We struggled to deal with them inside. We’d like to have had more scores on the board at half-time.”
Gaeil Fhánada’s weekend began on Friday evening when they defeated St Naul’s, but McAteer didn’t seek to use a hectic weekend as the reason for defeat.
He said: “Some of them boys played three games in three days. That’s not an excuse. Downings deserved it. They were never going to let this slip.”
