The new Donegal League season was officially launched last night in Ballyare as League action swings around again this weekend.
Across the five divisions – three Sunday and two Saturday – clubs are gearing up for the battle for League honours with up to 1,300 players registered in the League.
“Any club in any of the divisions are capable,” says Donegal League Registrar Nigel Ferry.
“You have a fair idea who’ll be competing for honours at Christmas. Most divisions have gone to the last couple of weekends and it’s been helicopter Sunday for a couple of years now.
“We have a very strong League and very good competition in the league. Our clubs are doing tremendous work in the League and we’re lucky in relation to referees – but we’re always on the look out for new blood – sponsors and the media.”
The Mayor of the Letterkenny Municipal District, Councillor Ian McGarvey was at the launch at the Diamond Park.
Mr Ferry has been one of the driving forces behind the latest phase of the redevelopment there and he spoke of the League’s aim to have their complex added to by the Donegal League’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
