Mervyn O’Donnell says Gaoth Dobhair have to be mentally prepared for another long haul.
Gaoth Dobhair had little break after winning the Donegal SFC and Ulster SFC in 2018, with a memorable run only ending with a defeat to Corofin in February.
A 1-22 to 0-14 win over Milford continued a good start to their 2019 League campaign yesterday.
“We’re still not where we want to be or anything near it,” the Gaoth Dobhair manager told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“We’re happy with the second-half display. We learned from last week. We knew the four-point lead was dangerous. We have to get used to trying to kill teams off – and we did that today.”
O’Donnell knows that his men are on the perch to be shot at this year, but feels the Magheragallon residents are ready.
He said: “The lads seem to be really focused and it’s great. The fellas we’re dealing with are very professional in what they do. They all do what they have to do.
“It’ll be a long year and it’ll come down to the mental side of it, more than the actual physical thing. Teams will come at us with fresh ideas and we’ll have to adapt.”
