The Donegal Ladies go into unchartered waters tomorrow as they face Cork in the county’s first-ever TG4 All-Ireland senior ladies semi-final – and Maxi Curran says they’re ready for the challenge.
Donegal and Cork joust at Dr Hyde Park for a place in the final. Donegal have won the last two Ulster titles and have reached an All-Ireland semi for the first time.
“We knew it was a big task, but Donegal have five or six players who’d make any team in the country. The talent is definitely there,” Curran says.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity. The pressure is off and everyone is backing Cork.
“Cork are overwhelming favourites and have won ten of the last 12 All-Irelands. You don’t get to that stage without bringing through a serious quality of player. The pressure is off. Getting across the All-Ireland quarter-final – a place the girls had stumbled at before – was big.
“It’s well set up for us. It’s a matter of getting there and not letting the occasion get to them.
“This is the best opportunity they’ve ever had. They know that and they have prepared in the knowledge that it’s a great chance.”
