Manus Kelly has vowed to go ‘as hard as we can’ as he gets set to change machinery to defend his Donegal International Rally title in June.
Kelly, alongside trusted co-driver Donall Barrett, have won the event for the last three years.
His three wins came in an S12B Subaru, but the crown will go on the line this year with Kelly and Barrett in an R5 car.
“We’re delighted to be able to get out into the car again to do what we do best,” Kelly said.
“We’ll compete in a different type of car this year. It’ll be a big, big challenge for us. I might have to sit in the left-hand side of the car which will be challenging.
“It’s a challenge in itself. We’ll go out in Donegal in an R5. We’ll drive as hard as we can with what we have and see where it takes us.”
Kelly will line up in Killarney, where he’s also the defending champion.
Last year, Kelly and Barrett picked up the overall award at the Donegal Sports Star Awards and the Glenswilly man was at the launch of this year’s awards.
He said: “It’s a very prestigious award. It’s great for all the disciplines to come together and be honoured. This is a great event.
“It was unbelievable to win it last year. It’s one we will hold highly in the cabinet.”
