Katy Herron’s first taste of senior inter-county football was in 2010 – and she was bitten by the lure of Croke Park that summer.
Donegal overcame Waterford to win an All-Ireland Intermediate title in 2010. Herron didn’t feature in that final, but being part of the rollercoaster was enough to keep her hooked.
Ten of the team from that afternoon, plus two substitutes who came on, can be expected to see action on Saturday when Donegal face Cork in their first ever senior semi-final at Dr Hyde Park (2.45pm).
“We feel now that we have every wee piece that fits the jigsaw to make the whole puzzle now,” Herron says.
“We’ve been driving towards this for a long time and we’ll leave no stone unturned. If we can get another bit of energy we’ll get out an do an extra bit.
“You wonder at the end of the year if there’s anything extra you could have done. Whatever the outcome this year, we’ll have given it our best shot.”
Donegal have won back-to-back Ulster titles and are an hour away from a first senior final.
The glint in Herron’s eye says it all.
She says: “It would be magic if we could get over the line.”
