Red Hughs captain Gerard Melaugh feels as if the penny might have ‘dropped’ for his side.
“Championship football can sting you,” he warned.
“Surprises can happen. You can’t look at yourself and think you deserve something – you have to go and earn it.
“I think the penny has dropped with us boys now. You can’t just expect to win things. You have to work hard and we have knuckled down this year in fairness.”
Damian Browne kicked nine points last night at Monellan with seven players on target in a fine win for the Crossroads side.
Melaugh said: “We did a lot of work and talking all week – and you can never take teams lightly. Conditions didn’t help, but we knuckled down and got the job done. We’re happy to get over the line, but we’re not getting carried away.”
