Richard Eaton has delivered an honest assessment of Raphoe’s season after the Donegal hockey club’s relegation to Section One.
It has been a tough season in the Premier Division for Raphoe, who have had several close top-flight encounters but haven’t managed to stave off relegation.
At the Royal and Prior on Saturday, Raphoe suffered a close 4-3 defeat to NICS with Alexander Tinney, Luke Witherow and William Wauchope scoring.
Raphoe manager Eaton is expecting to lose young prospects Tinney and Witherow, having already bid adieu to Ben Wallace last summer.
“I feel really bad that we couldn’t go on from how well we played. We lost five players – half a team – from last season,” Eaton said.
“We were able to compete in games and then we fell away.
“It’s an uphill struggle. We’re losing players and we’ll probably lose the two young lads.
“We’re out on a limb up here and I honestly think they don’t want to see us in the League.
“We travel every other week away and they don’t look at that. To them, Raphoe is at the other end of the world.”
