Since reaching the 2013 Donegal SFC final, Killybegs didn’t win a group game in the Championship until last night.
At Eamonn Byrne Memorial Park, Killybegs defeated Termon 1-12 to 0-10 and can seal a place in the quarter-finals next weekend when they welcome Naomh Muire to Fintra.
Evan Broderick hit a first half goal for Killybegs while Hugh McFadden helped himself to six points.
“That’s a remarkably bad stat, but we have an opportunity now to get into a big championship game,” McFadden said on the point of bridging the widening gap to 2013.
“We’re very happy with the result. We’ve had a few rough weeks in the League and we struggled to pick up any form at all or momentum.
“Gladly, a few things fell our way and we got the result.
“We were nervous and anxious, but the boys dug deep. The older, experienced players were fantastic. Daniel Breslin won 10 or 12 kick-outs on the run, Shane Molloy won a lot of dirty ball. A lot of boys stood up when we needed them.”
