DECLAN BONNER has consistently said that players performing well in training will get a chance for Donegal – and Eoin McHugh proved the point on Saturday.
McHugh was something of a surprise inclusion for a first Championship start since the 2017 hammering by Galway in Sligo.
The Kilcar man took a year out of the panel in 2018, but came back to turn in a fine shift in Cavan on Saturday evening.
“I think I put it in in training after the Fermanagh game,” McHugh told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“The boys were chatting to me the while way through the two weeks saying I might get a chance. I was happy to get 40 minutes. I’m delighted to be back and it’s a good win.
“We have 30 of a panel and everyone is delighted when they get the shout. You have to go again and help the boys out when you can.”
