Gavin Cullen says Cockhill Celtic answered their critics in tonight’s Donegal News USL League Cup final.
Laurence Toland’s brace, either side of a cracker from Malachy McDermott, in the final 19 minutes gave Cockhill their sixth League Cup in a row.
Cockhill and Rovers will meet again on Wednesday night in a play-off for the Four Lanterns Ulster Senior League title – and Cullen says his men have hit back.
“A lot of questions have been asked of us, but we answered a lot of them today,” Cullen said.
“It’s a big week for us and thankfully we got the right result today.
“We have character and we have good players. A lot has been made ‘maybe they’re gone’ – far from it.
“We’re far, far, far from finished. I thought it was unfair on the players some of the talk about it this week.”
Of his match-winner, Toland, Cullen said: “He is quality. He has been exceptional. He has that bit about him, the x-factor. He has come here to win trophies and I’m delighted that he has got one.”
