THE quirks of the Covid-19 affected football seasons mean that Gareth McGlynn will prolong his career for another term.
The curtain on the 2019/20 season has yet to be drawn, with Aileach facing an Ulster Junior Cup semi-final against Kildrum Tigers this weekend – when the new Inishowen League season gets underway.
“If we had to do another pre-season, I don’t think I would have come back,” McGlynn told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“if I had to do pre-season, I wouldn’t have come back. You want to play games. The running up and down and around the pitch, those days are gone.”
McGlynn was among the goalscorers for Aileach on Saturday as they added the Cup to the Premier Division title they’d already secured.
Aaron Nash and Damien Duffy exchanged goals in the first half, but second-half efforts by Gavin Doherty, Ethan Canning, McGlynn and Darren McMonagle took the win for Aileach.
McGlynn said: “It wasn’t easy. Clonmany put it up to us. We were never comfortable.”
