JAMES CARROLL was back from Australia and back on the scoresheet as Gaoth Dobhair sneaked past MacCumhaill’s and into the Donegal SFC semi-finals.
The side from Magheragallon were Ulster champions in 2018 and beaten finalists domestically last season but on Sunday looked like they were on their way out as they trailed the Twin Towns outfit 1-9 to 0-9 in the closing stages.
However, Carroll managed to score with his first touch having been taken off the bench and deep into injury time a nerveless free from Ethan Harkin and score from Cian Mulligan on the run sealed a dramatic 0-14 to 1-10 victory for the side managed by Mervyn O’Donnell.
It means that Gaoth Dobhair now face Kilcar in the semi-final in Letterkenny on Saturday, and Carroll, who was speaking before the draw was made, was glad to play his part to see Gaoth Dobhair in the last four.
He spoke with Alan Foley
