Frank McGlynn knows the story could have been oh so different – and the Glenfin man wants to make the most of now.
Hauled ashore before half-time in Donegal’s 14-point qualifier defeat to Galway in Sligo last July, the end of the road seemed nigh for McGlynn, but he’s back with a bang under Declan Bonner this year.
“The smile on the face comes from victories,” McGlynn says ahead of Saturday’s ‘Super 8’ clash with Dublin in Croke Park.
“It’s a far cry from where we were last year as a team and for me individually.”
McGlynn was coaxed back by Bonner and speaks with the tone of experience as Donegal head into the thee-game round robin series.
He said: “We managed the Ulster championship very well and we didn’t get ahead of ourselves. The Super 8s is the same. If you had Dublin coming down the tracks, you could be looking ahead to that.
“It’s a one-game at a time approach. The only one certainty you have is that if you win the three games you’ll be in an All-Ireland semi-final. That’s what we’re aiming for. You can’t do that unless you take step one – and that’s Dublin on Saturday evening.”
