FORMER Finn Harps goalkeeper John Young has told how he recovered from Covid-19 – after a ‘desperate’ battle.
The 77-year-old Derry man, was the Finn Harps ‘keeper and the club captain when the Ballybofey outfit entered the League of Ireland in 1969.
Young outlined on Foyle Sportsound on BBC Radio Foyle this morning how he had initially tested negative for Covid-19 before having to spent a fortnight in hospital.
“I was in hospital for two weeks and went through bad patches,” Young said in an interview with Eric White.
“I had some very bad nights and lost a stone and a half. I had 18 antibiotics into my arm. It was desperate.”
Young hailed the work of the medical staff and is now back at home with a supply of oxygen to aid his recovery. The spirits were lifted, too, following the arrival of a get well card from legendary Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pat Jennings.
