ST EUNAN’S College goalscorer Kieran Tobin dedicated yesterday’s MacRory Cup win over Patrician High to Callum Friel.
The Creeslough teenager, a popular and key member of the St Eunan’s squad, was buried on Monday after losing his battle with leukaemia last Friday at St James’ Hospital in Dublin.
Yesterday, friends and team-mates overcame Patrician 1-5 to 0-4 in a MacRory Cup game played in torrid conditions in Termon, a week after it had been called off following the youngster’s death.
“It was a tough week for the College and for a lot of boys involved in that team,” Tobin, who netted the goal on 51 minutes, told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“To go out and put in the performance that we did was just fantastic.
“It was tough, having to come out here. It was nearly an extra push for us nearly to get over the line.
“It was a big factor for. We wanted to do it, as well as for us and for our families, but mostly for him and for what he gave to us.”
