It has been a trying few weeks for Letterkenny Rovers but Eamonn McConigley was proud of his side’s resilience in last evening’s Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup final.
Declan Sharkey and Ryan Lonergan bagged the goals after Oisin McColgan opened the scoring for Cockhill Celtic in the final at Dry Arch Park.
“I’m delighted for the lads,” McConigley said.
“I’m over the moon. They’ve had a terrible season. At least we can celebrate something.”
Rovers were deserving winners with Ryan McConnell excellent in defence as Rovers saw off ten-man Cockhill, who had Malachy McDermott sent off in the second half.
For McConigley, the win brought some cheer, but the Rovers manager hit out at his side’s fixture pile-up.
He said: “I don’t want to be critical or anything, but on the 30th March we played Swilly Rovers and we have played 12 matches since.
“What chance have we in the League? It was seven matches in the month of April and I was really worried for them, but they dug deep.”
