Letterkenny Rovers manager Eamon McConigley says his side must be cautious and patient in Sunday’s FAI New Balance Intermediate Cup semi-final.
Rovers welcome Firhouse Clover to Leckview Park (1pm) with the Cathedral Town side looking to make it back to the final for the second time in three seasons, following their defeat by Crumlin at the Aviva in 2016.
Rovers have accounted for Bongaee United, Midleton, Cherry Orchard and Home Farm in the early rounds and McConigley, a two-time winner of the competition with Fanad United, is hoping to make home advantage count.
“It’s an advantage when you come to a semi-final,” McConigley says.
“I always caution the players that it’s not 90 minutes; it’s 180 minutes. You always have to keep that in mind and keep in the game as long as you can and maybe nick something to win it.
“It has to be the basis of the game not to go one behind.”
Rovers are sweating on the fitness of Paul McVeigh and Darren McElwaine ahead of the big Cup tie.
