Jason Gibson feels that the disappointment felt by Bonagee in Sunday’s loss to Cockhill was evidence of their own improvement.
There has been a seismic shift in the mood around Dry Arch Park since the kick-off of the new Ulster Senior League season and a 1-0 loss to the six-in-a-row champions was their first defeat of the campaign.
“It’s probably a measure of how far we’ve come that we’re disappointed and it’s now they react to a defeat now,” Gibson, in his first season at the helm in Bonagee, said.
“We’re only in the third League game of the season and we’ll regroup now.
“We’re obviously disappointed. There wasn’t much in the game and the first goal was always going to be massive. On the balance of chance I felt we shaded it.”
Darren McFadden went close a couple of times for Bonagee and Cockhill needed goal-line interventions from Oisin McColgan and Gerard McLaughlin in the first half before Laurence Toland struck the match-winner in the 52nd minute.
Gibson said: “We tried our best, but we have to realise where we’re at and take the positives. You have to be more clinical against Cockhill, even with the half-chances.”
