Inishowen League manager Diarmuid O’Brien felt that his side just didn’t ‘get a break’ in today’s Oscar Traynor Trophy final at Maginn Park.
“It is a measure of how far we have come when you see the disappointment on their faces there,” O”Brien said.
“Eoin Hayes said to me at the end there that we did everything but score – and we did.
“It was always going to be a tough game and the first goal was always going to be crucial.”
After Hayes’ goal, Inishowen had plenty of chances but their afternoon could be summed up by that moment when Matthew Henry – who had a fine outing after coming on as a substitute – hit the post and Brendan McLaughlin shot over from the rebound.
O’Brien said: “Our second half performance was brilliant after conceding, but we couldn’t get past Barry Ryan. We had three or four good half chances, but we didn’t have our finishing boots on. When you don’t score, you don’t win, it’s as simple as that.
“We had flashes of good play. We were happy enough at half-time. We wanted to up the performance and we did – all that was missing was a conversion. It just wasn’t to be.”
