Declan Bonner insisted refereeing decisions cost Donegal in their league defeat at O’Donnell Park as they lost a five-point lead against Fermanagh.
Fermanagh out-scored Donegal by nine points to two in the second half as Donegal were derailed to suffer a second defeat in a row.
But when Donegal, who already saw Caolan McGonagle sent off just after the mid-point of the first half, were reduced to 13 men following Stephen McMenamin’s black-carded in the 59th minute, it proved a big turning point.
Speaking to Donegal Sport Hub’s Charlie Collins in Letterkenny, Bonner said: “In games like that, small margins and big calls, and that was a big call and I felt that Padraig Hughes got it wrong.
“But listen, saying that, we still played well for the first fifty minutes, playing on the front foot and asking a lot of questions.
“In fairness to Fermanagh, I felt we should have been six or seven ahead at half-time, we missed a number of opportunities and we didn’t convert the chances when we were in the ascendency.”
