Letterkenny Rovers captain Darren McElwaine says the memories of 2016 are fuelling another push for the Aviva Stadium.
Rovers welcome Firhouse Clover from the Leinster Senior League to Leckview Park for an Intermediate Cup semi-final tomorrow.
Victory would catapult Rovers back to the final for the second time in three seasons, having lost out to Crumlin in the 2016 decider.
“We had a disappointing experience in the final but that’s driving us on to finish the job this year,” McElwaine, who bagged both goals in the quarter-final win over Home Farm.
“We got a bit of momentum and into the semi-final. It’s crept up on us this year a wee bit with games being called off in the bad weather.
“Being drawn away to Cherry Orchard was a daunting task, but it was our best performance of the year. The draw gave us real focus.
“We got Home Farm, that was a poor game, but we got the result on a poor pitch and here we are in a semi-final.”
Two years ago, Rovers defeated Ringmahon in a replay at Leckview and Rovers are dreaming of a repeat tomorrow.
McElwaine says: “That was a special day. We still have a backbone from that team, but we have a lot of fresh faces in too.”
