Gavin Cullen says winning was all that was in Cockhill Celtic’s minds as they prepared for today’s joust with Letterkenny Rovers.
Cockhill, who have won the last five Ulster Senior League titles, moved three points clear at the summit after a 4-0 win over Rovers, Jimmy Bradley’s first half brace followed by second-half goals by Ronan Doherty and Garbhan Friel.
“We dominated proceedings in most areas of the pitch. We could and probably should have scored more,” was the verdict of Cockhill player-manager Cullen.
“The energy and the quality we have in our side means we’re a match for anyone. It’s in our nature to go and win games.
“We’d have taken a point coming up the road but our focus this week was to go and win the game – and win it as well as we could.”
Cockhill have been the dominant force in the USL in recent times but, as Cullen says, the make-up of their squad means they don’t look likely to loosen their grip any time soon.
He said: “We had a lot of really good players. We were at it. We were hungry.
“Six of them are under 21, which is great to have. It’s new for some of them, these big games, but they stepped up and showed their mettle.”
