Colm McFadden makes no bones about it – St Michael’s ‘haven’t been good enough’ in the Donegal SFC.
Finalists in 2011, when they were beaten by Glenswilly, and regular visitors to semi and quarter-finals, the Creeslough-Dunfanaghy side are still in search of their big breakthrough at senior level.
The Bridge men have been tagged as ‘underachievers’ and McFadden feels it’s a merited billing.
“It’s a fair point,” the former Donegal star says.
“We only came close once. We should have been challenging more.
“It’s hard to argue against that point. I don’t think there’s a burden. Every team would want to go out and win a Championship.”
McFadden will be absent this weekend – and possibly for the entire duration of the 2018 championship – when St Michael’s travel to face their neighbours Termon at The Burn Road. St Michael’s also have Four Masters and Malin in their group.
McFadden said: “It’ll be an interesting game for us in Termon. It’ll be a tough battle. It’s a game both teams will really want to win.
“It’s going to be far from an easy group. Burt put it up to us in a quarter-final and they felt that we should have been beaten. We were lucky to come out with a win.”
