The 2018 North West Women’s Super League will kick off on Thursday, May 3rd after the new campaign was launched on Tuesday night.
The AGM of the League took place at An Grianan Hotel, Burt, where the fixtures for the new season were drawn up.
Last year saw the inaugural North West Women’s Super League season with Illies Celtic winning the nine-team League.
The North West Women’s Super League – sponsored by Neal Doherty Jewellers and the Glencar Inn – is a joint venture between the Donegal Women’s League and the Inishowen Women’s League.
“It was a great idea to form this League,” said North West Women’s Super League Chairman Dessie Kelly.
“It was a good high standard and it worked very well. It’s important now that we continue what we started and this is the way forward.
“We have to continue the good work of 2017 and we’re looking forward to progressing it.”
North West Women’s Super League Secretary Fergus Hegarty said the 2017 season had run smoothly.
“It was a very worthwhile venture,” he said.
“We see a good future for women’s football in Donegal and it was a great success in the first year.”
Competitions Secretary Brid McGinty said the ‘enthusiasm’ in year one had been ‘brilliant’ and was looking ahead to another competitive year.
Swilly Rovers and Rasheney have withdrawn their participation in recent times, but Fanad United have entered for 2018.
There will be eight team competing in 2018: Bonagee United, Carndonagh FC, Clonmany Shamrocks, Fanad United, Greencastle FC, Illies Celtic, Lagan Harps and Moville Celtic.
Champions Illies host last year’s runners-up Lagan Harps on the opening night.
