A gala banquet honouring Donegal’s All-Ireland winning team from 1992 will be held on Friday-week -and organisers are hoping for a capacity crowd at the Abbey Hotel.
25 years on from the history-making year when Donegal won Sam Maguire for the first time, Brian McEniff’s team will be honoured on home soil.
Earlier this year, the Donegal squad were the jubilee team at the Ulster and All-Ireland finals.
Friday-week’s banquet will raise money for three charities: Pieta House, Donegal Hospice and the Inishowen Flood Relief Fund.
“There is a great buzz and interest in this,” said Donegal County Chairman Sean Dunnion.
“They’ll never be forgotten. 1992 was unexpected at the time.

“We had been through difficult times. They came into the final as underdogs, but the way they played in the final will never be forgotten. They will be forever etched in our memory.”
Philip McGlynn is the Chairman of the sub-committee behind the organising.
“They’re a great bunch of lads,” the Bundoran man said.

“They haven’t changed. They’re a great bunch of characters. They show you the kind of guys they are. They’re one big family and I hope that the night is a huge success.”
Organisers hope a crowd of around 550 will be in attendance. Tickets, costing €40, can be purchased from the Abbey Hotel or by contacting the Donegal GAA office in Ballybofey. They are also available to purchase online – http://donegalgaa.ie/product/gala-banquet/
