LIFFORD-Strabane AC hosted their summer 10k road race on Sunday.
The race started on the main Lifford to Letterkenny Road taking runners out past Murlog Chapel to the village of Ballindraint before heading over the Cavanacorr Road towards Rossgier.
The race goers returned to Lifford enduring the drag on the Letterkenny Road before making their way for a single loop of The Roughan, finishing at Naomh Padraig GAA.
Finn Valley’s Dermot McElchar lead the way running a personal best in a super-fast time of 32:47, 24 seconds in front of his nearest rival.
Lifford Strabane AC’s leading lady, Claire McGuigan (pictured), coached by Michael McKinney, won the ladies race, finishing in an impressive 8th place overall with a superb personal best time of 34:46. Claire was almost 5 minutes ahead of her closest challenger.
The first male finisher for the host club was Gavin McCullagh, 6th placing overall and first time racing the 10K distance in a fantastic time of 34:36.
Kenny Melaugh was next to the line for the club placing 11th overall in 35:23, followed by master athlete Michael Duncan who was delighted to run sub 40mins with a time of 39:59.
The second lady finisher for the club running a well deserving personal best time of 41:31 to take 1st in the female 40+ category was Linda McGrath, followed by Catherine Quigley in 53:27.
