Over 180 runners took part in the St. Patrick’s Day 5K charity race in Strabane on Sunday, raising funds for local charities.
10 Lifford Strabane AC Athletes took part in the event, representing the club.
This race route proved a popular route which provided some great performances, personal bests and season bests from our club athletes, some of which were recovering from racing the much longer distance of 10 miles last weekend, displaying their racing diversity and ability to race various distances throughout the racing season.
For Lifford Strabane AC it was Alan McGinley that finished first for the club, placing second overall in a super-fast time of 16:17.
Lifford Strabane AC’s Paul Kelly was next to the line placing third overall running a season’s best in a superb time of 17:25.
Third senior male finisher for the club Liam Cleary had a strong run finishing in a great time of 21:21.
In the Ladies race, it was Lifford Strabane AC’s leading lady Claire McGuigan that stole the show picking up the silverware finishing first lady, placing fourth overall running a season’s best in a fantastic time of 17:35.
Claire was awarded the Gerry O’Donnell Cup for the second consecutive year.
Edel McCauley was the only other female participant for the club with a time of 30:41. This athlete is recovering from an injury and it’s great to see her making progress, getting back on to the roads!!
In the Junior Male Category, it was Lifford Strabane AC’s young Cormac Carlin that finished first, placing 14th overall and fourth finisher for the club.
Carlin, an avid golfer, has turned his attention to athletics of recent, showing great commitment to training and ability running a very deserving personal best time of 19:58PB.
Other club finishers were Sean Carlin 21:51, Dominic Carlin 22:28, Laurence Doherty 25:57 and Sean Michael Morris 35:27.
