Despite the early race start Lifford Strabane AC athletes were in cruise control at Convoy 10k Road Race, on what proved to be a perfect morning for racing and spectating.
Among the 254 finishers at this popular road race, Lifford Strabane AC was represented by 28 senior club athletes and one junior male athlete. 19 well deserving personal bests and superfast times were recorded by these athletes, with many having raced last weekend.
This reported “Fast Course” does not come easy, with plenty of inclines to keep you working on from 2.5K – 6K. A downhill finish encouraged runners to push it right to the line.
The clubs solo junior male participant, young Mark McCurdy had a superb run to finish 6 mins faster than his previous 10k time for a personal best time of 50:49. Well done Mark, keep up the good work & continue with your commitment to your training.
First 3 male senior club athletes all running personal bests and fantastic times were; Philip Kelly 38:17PB taking 1min off his previous time, Kevin McMenamin 39:47PB this athlete also took 1min off his previous time & the ever consistent John Coyle who is having a great racing season to date ran 41:37PB.
First 3 female senior club athletes they too running personal bests and superb times were; Linda McGrath leading the pack and taking over 2mins of her previous 10k time to finish in 45:09PB, Carmel Hoynes just pipped her fellow club athlete to the line in 46:06PB taking 1min 40secs off her previous time over this race distance with Roisin McGinley who’s super race form continues had the race of her life knocking 5mins off her previous 10K time to finish in 46:11PB and placed 2nd in F50+ Category.

Congratulations to club member Anne Donnell. Over the last two weekends Anne has been extremely busy taking part in her very first Duathlon & most certainly will not be her last which took place in Rathmullan & Shore to Summit event in Drumfries located between Buncrana & Ballyliffin. Well done Anne on your achievements.

The club has planned to host a small competition on Tuesday 18th April U9 – U11. Volunteers required to help out with this event. Check our facebook page for further details.
Parents of juvenile athletes please note the club will be closed for Easter holidays from Friday 14th – Wednesday 17th inclusive apart from the competiton for the relevant age groups. Normal training arrangements resumes on Monday 24th April. Any queries regarding these matters contact us through your child/childrens coach or via our facebook page.

On Thursday 20th April, Lifford Strabane AC will be providing “Chip Timing” at the O.N.E. Perpetual 5K in Carrigans, race starting at 7:30pm, we would like to ask our club athletes to show their support at this race.
